Wigan is one of the deprived northern towns, yet rented accommodation is extremely expensive due to private landlords, not even from the area capitalising on benefit claimants, and not a good place for asylum-seekers due to a high percentage of anti-migrant sympathy that stems from being gaslit that the reason they are destitute is because of migrants, of course nothing to do with 14 years of austerity by a Tory government and Labour trying to outbid Reform racists, in other words total incompetence by successive governments.
